Since its inception in the fall of 2002, the Montreal-based ensemble Buzz Cuivres has dedicated itself to showcasing the full expressive richness of the brass quintet. This instrumentation often remains overlooked, even unjustly neglected, as audiences tend to associate brass instruments more readily with marching bands, military music, or jazz and pop groups than with the refinements of chamber music. To transcend these perceptions, the ensemble offers a wide audience three distinct programs: general public, young audiences, and symphonic. With its original artistic offerings that blend rigor and entertainment, Buzz Cuivres leaves no one unmoved.

With over 2,000 performances to its credit, the ensemble has captivated more than 500,000 music lovers in North America, Europe, and China. Its unique approach to chamber music for brass instruments is enriched by collaborations with guest artists on piano, organ, harp, and percussion, lending its performances an energetic and joyful character that is particularly appreciated. The ensemble also expands its reach through its symphonic productions, collaborating with renowned orchestras such as those of Sherbrooke, Quebec City, Edmonton, and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

The exceptional quality of Buzz Cuivres’ performances is reflected in the numerous awards and distinctions received over the years: ADISQ nominations 2024 and 2010, OPUS Awards 2022, 2017 and 2014, Trille Or Award 2015, Three Weeks Edinburgh Journal Editors’ Award 2015. This critical recognition is accompanied by remarkable discographic success, with eight albums acclaimed by international critics, including the recent  Héritage  (ATMA Classique, 2024).

Drawing on a unique repertoire that blends original works for brass with bold transcriptions, Buzz Brass is now among Canada’s most renowned brass quintets. The ensemble continues to enrich the musical landscape, demonstrating that brass instruments have a vital role to play in the world of chamber music.
